Ryan ranks number 49th among 1219 male names that include all ages during 1990. This statistics show that it is a well-known first name in America. I remember this one girl back in college. This girl was so pretty and popular. Well, her name was Ryanne. But I code-named her as Rain because she was like the rain to me. She gave me shivers when she passed by. And like rain, she was also cold to me.

If your name is Ryan, then you must be living in Australia, England, Canada, Ireland, or Scotland. You might also be living just about anywhere because Ryan's undeniably a popular first name. It's also popular as a girl name or as a surname. Take for instance Meg Ryan. You can choose Ryan if you also want to be popular. People, whose name is Ryan, are lively and outgoing. Perhaps this is because of its royal meaning.

I have a confession to make. I have this huge desire to know more about the guy's that my lovely daughter is going out with. Needless to say, I use any and all forms necessary just so I can get to know the guy better. And I do mean, anything. You see, aside from grilling the boy about his background, personality, ambitions, and everything else, I make it a point to research what the boy's name means. Weird, but oh so true. I can't help it! I am a father after all! It is therefore my duty to know everything for my child's welfare. Besides, we have all heard that some people are actually affected by their names. Something like having the personality of what their name means. It goes without saying that I made a little research about this new guy, Jeff.
From what I have found out, Jeff is of English origin. It is a shortened version for Jeffrey and Jefferson. However in the 20th century, the said name can be used independently. It is very much a famous name. Would you believe that it actually ranked 120 from 1219 male names? If that's any indication of how popular this Jeff guy is, I must say that I'm going to keep an eye on him. You all know how famous guys are stereotyped, right? I don't want to see my daughter crying. However, I must admit though that this Jeff seems to be a pretty nice fellow. That's saying much since I don't really like the guys whom my daughters are dating.

Peter is such a pleasant male name. If ever I'll have the chance to change my name, I'll choose Peter. The name is easy to pronounce, spell and remember. As a matter of fact, it ranked top 143d in United States' Top 1000 Male Name list. From the Greek name "Petros", Peter actually means stone or rock. The name was first used in the Bible when Jesus Christ gave the name to apostle Simon. There are many famous and powerful people as well as characters possessing that name. King Peter Urseolo for instance, the Hungarian monarch who ruled the place from 1038-1046. The czars of Russia from 1682-1762 were borne with the same name. There's Pope Peter of the Catholic church.
Even the world renowned literary genius William Shakespeare used the name for some of his characters in his masterpieces namely, Taming the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream and King John. Oscar award winners are also borne with the name. They are Sir Peter Ustinov, who won two Best Supporting Actor awards for Spartacus (1960) and Topkapi (1964). Peter Finch as the homosexual doctor for Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971).
And of course, my beloved director, Peter Jackson who won Best Director for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in 2003. He was also the director of the blockbuster hit Kingkong and was reported to direct the movie version of the PC and Xbox game, Halo. Who would forget the fictional boy who never grew up and Captain Hook's mortal enemy, Peter Pan? By the way, he's also one of the greatest Peter in history. But the reason why I love Peter is because of our friendly neighborhood hero, Spiderman a.k.a. Peter Parker. So say that Peter's a lousy name and I'll hang you in a fifty-feet high building with my web.

Junior is sometimes used to refer to someone inexperienced or young in a certain field of profession. In Latin, junior is the term meaning young. Along with senior, it is the common suffix to male names which can be written with the first letter either in upper case (Jr.) or in lower case (jr.) following a comma after the person's surname but when spelled out in full, it is written in lower case. Junior is only applied correctly if the name of the son is exactly the same as that of his father's. When the child has a different middle name or initial technically, they can not be called junior.
For example, Michael Dean Layfield (Michael D. Layfield) is the name of the father and his son is Micheal Roberts Layfield (Michael R. Layfield), the younger Michael Layfield is not called junior because they have different middle names. Although in colloquially, he can still be called junior because of it is a common familiar nickname in Western cultures. Some male celebrities, even though they have an entirely different birth name, use the name of their father who was successful in the industry to capitalize on his achievements. When a boy is named after his grandfather, his will not be called junior. Instead, "II" is used as a suffix for his name.
Social name suffixes are almost always used by men alone, but there are instances when daughters who bear the same name of their mother are titled as juniors. This is a practice mostly used in legal documents to differentiate the mother from the daughter.

In my years spent on this Earth, I haven't been to a place where there was no one named Mark. This popular name is commonly used as sort of a prefix for another name, like in the case of Mark Anthony. Mark is also the name of one of the Evangelical disciples; being among the four who wrote the Gospels of the New Testament. Different cultures have their own variant for the name. English-speaking countries have Mark or Marc, Italians have Mario, Latin countries have Marcos or Marco and the Greeks have Marius.
The name Mark comes from Latin and it means "dedicated to Mars" or "belonging to Mars." Mars of course is the Roman god of war, so the name Mark has a warlike nature. There are many other recognized figures that are named Mark, besides the disciple of Christ.
The famous baseball player who had set a record for the most homerun is named Mark McGwire. The Italian explorer who traveled to Cathay and met Kublai Khan is named Marco Polo. Samuel Clemens, the author of the literary classic Tom Sawyer, used Mark Twain as his pseudonym. Mark Twain is the call of Mississippi boatmen which means the water is two fathoms deep.

He was the first man to ever step on the surface of the moon, and he is famous for saying the line, "That's one small step for man, and one giant leap for mankind." Neil Armstrong is perhaps the most popular astronaut ever. I doubt many people know or remember the name of his two companions, can you?
Aside from the famous astronomer, there are two famous singers who bear this name: Neil Diamond and Neil Young. The most famous king of Ireland was called Niall of the Nine Hostages, who was believed to have kidnapped a young Saint Patrick and brought him to Ireland. Neil is not only popular as a first name, but is also a popular last name as well.
According to a US census released last decade, Neil ranked 234 out of 1219 first names for the boys and 2884 out of 88799 surnames. The name Neil has an Irish and Gaelic heritage, and it means "champion." In the Cornish British, this name signifies might and power. The Gaelic form of this name is Neul or Niall, which means "cloud", and used figuratively to mean dark complexion. The surname Neil is said to be the shortened form of McNiel, an Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Néill, a partonymic form for the first name Niall.

Everybody knows the stout plumber, dressed in red, off to save the princess, right? He is famous because of a classic video game named after him. Mario, just like the game suggests, is of Italian origin, Sicilian to be more specific.
It was a popular name in Italy because it was thought to be the masculine form of the Blessed Virgin's name, Maria. It is, in fact, wrong because Mario is the Italian name for Marius. Marius is a noble name in Rome, and is of Latin origin. When translated, the name of Mario means "manly." Some also suggest that is of Hebrew origin and that it means "bitter" and "king ruler."
Mario is a popular name in Italy. In fact, it is the fourth most popular name with 900,000 Italian boys bearing that name. It is also popular in the United States; in a 1990 US census Mario ranked 143 out of 1219 for males. Some famous people who are named Mario are: the Roman general Caio Mario, the tenor Mario Del Monaco who was dubbed as the "Brazen Bull of Milan," and the former governor of New York, Mario Coumo.

I first encountered the name Ken in the classic arcade fighting game, Street Fighter. His character was a blonde martial artist from the United States. I also had a classmate in my elementary school named Ken, who was had Asian heritage. The name Ken sounds so Japanese don’t you think so? Well, although it is a Japanese word that means “sword” and “strong” or “physically healthy” the first name Ken is of English origin. Ken is also an English word that means “perception.”
Several names have been based from Ken like Kenneth, Kenny, Kennan, Kenji and Kenshin. Some famous mainstream figures that bear this name are baseball player Ken Griffey, Jr., Kenny G., a world famous sax player, singers Kenny Loggins and Kenny Rogers, and of course, Barbie’s boyfriend.
As well as being used as a prefix, the name Ken can also be used as a suffix for some surnames like Aiken and Bracken. This name is quite popular in the United States during the 1990’s. According the 1990 U.S Census, the name Ken ranked 265 out of 1219 male names when the survey came out.

Imagine the world without names. A name is the best identification of a person from other people. Without name people will be confused on how they are going to call each other. There is no social order. Before, names are based on the Bible -- both Christian and Muslim. The meaning of the name is the primary consideration in choosing a name. As years passed, the concept of meaning is slowly fading. Most parents now keep selecting names without thinking of the background of the name.
Among the major sources of naming today are the famous personalities in movie and music industry. For sure everybody knows Brad Pitt but not everybody knows where his name was taken. The name Brad was taken from the surname Bradley which means "unknown," contrary to his real present status in life. Another famous celebrity is Leonardo di Caprio. His name is French that means "bold as a Lion." Orlando Blooms name on the other hand is an Italian version of Roland that means "renowned land." There is nothing wrong in naming your child with celebrity names but still consider the meaning of the name.

The name of your baby will with him for his lifetime. He will be recognized by other people by his name which you have given him. That is why you should select a name which your boy would be proud and happy when he grows up. Today, there are some individuals who are changing their names because they are not happy with it. This is very prominent in the world of entertainment. There are many celebrities who changed their real names because they are not appropriate with their lifestyle.
As parents, you must select a name which has a positive and valuable meaning. You must not pick name that could be associated with dullness and stupidity. Instead, use name which is associated with intelligence, beauty, energy and strength or the name of the people you admire. For instance, the name Alexander which means, "defender of mankind." This name obviously entails strength. However, you must also consider the sound of the name. It should have a good blend with the surname and middle name, but the rhyme must not be very obvious like Bart Dart. If you will name your boy with this name, there is a possibility that your son will be teased by his playmates.

A name is very important to every individual because it is what makes them unique to other individuals. Perhaps you are wondering where your name came from. Names perhaps came from different countries with different meanings. There are names taken from the Bible, famous personalities of the old times, well-known Hollywood stars, and others. That depends on the choice of the parents.
Today most of the names are based on the big personalities in Hollywood. If you are named Immanuel, your name means God is always with us. Obviously, your name was taken from the Bible. Irwin on the other hand, is an English name which means, sea lover. "God is gracious," this is the connotation of the name Ivan, a Russian translation of the name John. And the Scottish form of it is Ian. If you are a hot-tempered person, the suitable name for you is Inigo the Spanish translation of Ignitius which connotes "fire." And the name Ibrahim stands for "father of many." Although name does not affect and reflect the personality of a person it is still very vital to carefully think and select the appropriate name because he/she will be addressed that way for the rest of his/her life.

I'm a big music fan, and i certainly admire Sean Combs, or Puffy, or Diddy, or whatever he wants to be called. Whatever his nickname is, he'll always be Sean, a Celtic name meaning "God's grace" or "God's gracious gift" and indeed, this guy has almost everything.
Although its meaning is Celtic, it is of Irish origin and from the French name Jean. In the 20th century in Ireland, Sean had become a popular name. I also like " Will & Grace" a lot, and yes, you guessed it, Sean Hayes is my favorite character actor, as the quirky, loveable Jack! Hmm, every Sean seems to be so excellent in their craft, God's gracious gift to them, I suppose.

Brad is perhaps one of those names parents would dream of calling their baby boy, due to the popularity of the actor Brad Pitt. This is not at all surprising. I mean, who would not want to have a son as talented and as irritatingly handsome as Pitt, right?
However, the nickname or name Brad actually means something negative in Welsh. Unlike its other longer variations, Brad refers to treason. Now, this is surprising and interesting. How could anyone have guessed that Brad has his own imperfections?

Who doesn't love Harry Potter? I love Harry's character in the Harry Potter movies so much. He's just a boy of substance and doesn't talk much, but when he does, it's worth listening to. Well, that figures why his name is Harry, Harry means "power" in Anglo Saxon. I think Harry will always be protagonists in all movies. It's just a warm-sounding name.
Prince Harry for example. He's a very quiet boy, inspite of the many rumors surrounding him and his family, he stays mums about it. Harry is used as a nickname for Henry, actually Prince Harry is a Henry. Henry in old English means "home ruler." I think that Harry goes way back as the powerful-ruler type. It seems that many Harrys end up ruling over countries or the magical world of Hogwart's.

I recently came across this book series by Lemony Snicket, which was made into a movie. The main antagonist in this series is Count Olaf, a character which was played by Jim Carey in the film.
In the series, Olaf is constantly pursuing the lead siblings to acquire their wealthy inheritance and I cannot help but wonder if the name had any significance or it was just all in Lemony's head. Surprisingly, Olaf is one Scandinavian name which refers to "heir." So, using Olaf is fitting to the series after all.

It seems that the name Michael is synonymous to greatness. Michael Jordan has the bench mark for excellence in basketball, having numerous of awards and feats under his belt. His airness is often looked up to as simply the best to ever grace the hard court.
One of the popular music industry's most renownedand controversial artist, the king of pop, is also a Michael. Even heaven's archangel, who is thought by many to be Jesus Christ himself, shares this name. Having a name that means "who is like god", these Michael proved to be gods of their domain.

When I was a kid, I liked Christopher Robin so much. I wanted him to be my bestfriend too, just like Winnie the Pooh. Then I grew older, and I became a huge fan of Christopher Walken. He's such a unique and talented actor, until now, I watch all his films. But the name Christopher goes way back, it means "Christ-bearer."
From the name itself, it has Christ in it. It is of Greek origin, and it can be spelled in many ways, like Kristofer, Kristopher, Christof, Chris, or Kristof. All of these names are used all around the world in many different languages. I bet all of you knows a Christopher, Christopher people can be great friends, just like Christopher Robin for Winnie the Pooh. Just like Christ to all of us.

The name Kenneth is a Gaelic, Scottish, and old English name, and it means, handsome, born of royal oath and born of fire. There are many substitute names for Kenneth with the same meaning like Ken, Kenney and Kevin. All of these really sound masculine and strong guys.
You decide which but I say, Kenneth is the best one. Its Celtic definition is also handsome, so all the men whose names are Kenneth are pretty lucky guys. You'll always be the handsome guy, you always were since the medieval era, that is!

Have you ever heard of a boy whose name is not as serious as it appears to be? Well, believe it or not, Buster has caught on the ears of some parents who are apt to label their naughty, restless kid, even though it has not yet reached the one hundred and fifty mark in 2003 or 2004 name database in the US.
The name Buster actually refers to a person who always breaks things, and if you know someone who might just fit the description, give him this unique English name and he might just enjoy having it.

The sky is a nourishing, refreshing, and comforting part of daily lives, why? Everytime you look up, and see the fluffy white clouds, and the clear blue sky, can't you just help but smile? It's so picturesque that you want to take photographs of it everytime.
The sky is something that I would want to impart to my baby boy, I believe that when he grows older, he'll develop the same nourishing character, that of the sky. There's a male name that's just perfect, Skye, it means water giver. Now, isn't that nourishing enough?
