Edward Scissorhands is among the greatest stories ever written and shown in the big screen. It's the 1990s movie about a "guy" who has scissors for hands, hence the title. The movie was created by Tim Burton, and starred by no less than Johnny Depp as Edward. If I'm not mistaken, Depp always plays the lead role in Burton's masterpieces like The Corpse's Bride and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Anyway, I'm no longer interested with the movie because I've seen it dozens of time since I was a kid. So, let's just focus on the character's first name and check out its meaning. Based on
quick Internet search, the name came from the Ancient English words "ead" which means blessed, and "weard" which means guard; therefore the Edward is for "blessed guard". There are so many famous Edwards in the world and incidentally, most of them were writers.
Edward William Bok, is an energetic American editor in the aspect of journalism for women. His paper, Ladies' Home Journal helped change the old
American culture about its views on women's rights. Philip Edward Thomas is an English celebrated poet who wrote Adlestrop, Celandine, and The Manor Farm. Edward Franklin Albee belongs to the greatest dramatists and theatrical producer of America who created the famous classic, " Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?".
