Serious To Be Ernest

Aside from J.K Rowling, the writer of the phenomenal Harry Potter series, another author that I consider the world's greatest is Sir Ernest Miller Hemingway. He is a well-known expatriate writer, American novelist and journalist.His masterpieces like The Old Man and The Sea and The Sun Also Rises earned him different awards and citations including the Nobel Prize for Literature and Pulitzer Prize. I like him because despite his achievements in life, he is still so humble and his works always reflect the realities of life.

Anyway, with regards to his name, Ernest, it actually means "seriousness" and it came from the German term eornost. There are a lot of great people borne with the name, and surprisingly, most of them are inclined to the arts and leadership. Ernest Thompson Seton is a British-born U.S. naturalist and animal fiction writer whose book entitled Wild Animals I have Known led to a campaign for the respect for American Indians and conservation for endangered mammals.

Ernest Bevin is a British statesman and leader of the Transport and General Worker's Union, the world's largest trade union during his time. He also became the minister of labour under Winston Churchill's government. We also have Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier, a French painter of subjects embracing historical, military, and Napoleonic battles.
